A character teaches someone how to dance to help them with their love life.

- The Patty Duke Show: Season 1, episode 5, "The Birds and the Bees Bit" (1963). Ross is going to his first dance, so Patty teaches him how to dance with a girl.
- The Addams Family: Season 1, episode 13, "Lurch Learns to Dance" (1964). Lurch doesn't want to attend the annual butler's ball because he doesn't know how to dance, so Gomez and Morticia insist on teaching him.
- Good Times: Season 1, episode 12, "The Check Up" (1974). JJ has a "heavy date," and he begs Thelma to teach him how to dance so he can impress his date. At first, Thelma refuses, but then she gets a call telling her that she landed the part-time job she wanted, and she's so happy she decides to help JJ.
- Good Times: Season 2, episode 18, "The Debutante Ball" (1975). A rich girl invites JJ to a debutante ball, so Florida teaches him how to dance a waltz.
- Welcome Back, Kotter: Season 2, episode 8, "Sadie Hawkins Day" (1976). A girl asks Horshack to the Sadie Hawkins dance, so he asks Freddie to teach him how to dance. While Freddie's showing Horshack how to do the hustle, Mr. Woodman decides to join in.
- WKRP in Cincinnati: Season 4, episode 15, "I'll Take Romance" (1982). Jennifer teaches Les how to dance for his big date to the Cincinnati Broadcasters dinner.
- Cheers: Season 5, episode 5, "House of Horrors with Formal Dining and Used Brick" (1986). Cliff tells Carla that he always wanted to join in at school dances, but he never had anyone to practice with, so Carla teaches him how to dance.
- Dream On: Season 1, episode 11, "Up the River" (1990). A girl asks Jeremy to a dance, but he's afraid to go because he doesn't know how to dance, so Martin and Eddie show him how by dancing together, and Eddie gets a little carried away.
- Night Court: Season 7, episode 19, "The Glasnost Menagerie" (1990). Dan has to learn how to waltz to impress a woman at the lieutenant governor's ball, so he pays Roz to teach him how, and they have so much fun that they both start to fall for each other.
- Frasier: Season 3, episode 13, "Moon Dance" (1996). Newly-separated Niles has a date to a ball, but he doesn't know how to dance, so Daphne volunteers to teach him some moves.
- The Nanny: Season 4, episode 5, "Freida Needa Man" (1996). Aunt Freida's boyfriend, Fred, won't propose to her because he doesn't feel he's good enough for her. One of the reasons is because he doesn't know how to dance, so Fran tries to teach him, but he ends up having a heart attack mid-step.
- 3rd Rock from the Sun: Season 1, episode 16, "Dick Like Me" (1996). Sally falls for Tommy's teacher, who asks her to a school dance, but she doesn't know how to dance, so she asks Harry and Dick to teach her how.
- 3rd Rock from the Sun: Season 4, episode 23, "Dick's Big Giant Headache: Part 1" (1999). Alissa wants Tommy to take her to the junior prom, so he asks Harry to teach him how to slow dance, but Harry takes his role as "Alissa" way too seriously.
- Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place: Season 2, episode 14, "Two Guys, a Girl and a Proposal" (1999). Pete's girlfriend's son, Michael, is nervous about going to a dance at school because he doesn't know how to dance, so Pete teaches him some dance moves based on the moves of a hockey goalie.
- Spin City: Season 3, episode 17, "Dick Clark's Rockin' Make-Out Party '99" (1999). The mayor needs to learn how to waltz for an upcoming event. First Carter and Paul try to demonstrate by dancing with each other, but they make a mess of it, so Janelle dances with the mayor instead, and sparks fly between them.
- Malcolm in the Middle: Season 5, episode 9, "Dirty Magazine" (2004). Otto and Gretchen are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, and Gretchen bought auto a custom-made cuckoo clock, so he feels like he has to get her a really good gift: He wants to learn how to waltz so that they can dance on their anniversary. Francis tells him he knows how to waltz from military school when he used to take girls to cotillions, and he offers to teach him. Unfortunately, Otto proves to be an especially difficult student, who constantly beats himself up.
- The Goldbergs: Season 1, episode 14, "You Opened the Door" (2014). Adam's crush, Dana, asks him if he's going to the dance and tells him to save a dance for her, but he doesn't know how to dance, so he asks Beverley to teach him.
