- Soap: Season 3, episode 14 (1980). Burt tries to break a world record so he can leave a legacy when he dies, but every attempt he makes fails.
- Herman's Head: Season 1, episode 10, "Near Death Wish" (1991). After a co-worker suddenly dies, Herman decides to make his mark on the world by breaking the world record for doing the most work in one sitting. He falls short, but since he stayed awake the whole time, he ended up setting a record for going the longest without sleep.
- 3rd Rock from the Sun: Season 3, episode 22, "Just Your Average Dick" (1998). When August tries throw away a soda can, Harry takes it and tells her he's trying to set a world record for collecting cans. When she asks him how many he has so far, he says he has one.
- King of the Hill: Season 4, episode 3, "Bills Were Made to be Broken" (1999). When Bill's touchdown record is broken, Bobby is inspired to break a record himself, so he hops on a pogo stick and has Luanne count the jumps, but he falls off after every jump.
- The Simpsons: Season 13, episode 8, "Sweets and Sour Marge" (2002). After reading a Duff book of world records, Homer wants to break a world record, so he assembles the whole town in an attempt to build the world's biggest human pyramid, but it collapses into a ball that rolls onto a giant scale, which proves the town did break a record: America's fattest city.
- It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 3, episode 11, "Dennis Looks Like a Registered Sex Offender" (2007). Charlie tries to break the world record for holding his breath, but he quits just a few seconds before the record.
- Community: Season 3, episode 13, "Digital Exploration of Interior Design" (2012). Troy and Abed start building a pillow fort in the school, and the dean tells them there's a world record for the largest pillow or blanket fort, so Troy suggests they build a blanket fort instead, but Abed doesn't agree, so they split up and build two separate forts.
