Insomnia
A character suffers from severe insomnia and can't sleep. They try several different methods to help them sleep, but the only thing that works is something unexpected.

- The Munsters: Season 1, episode 12, "The Sleeping Cutie" (1964). Marilyn is suffering from insomnia, and Grandpa tries to make a sleeping potion to help her sleep.
- The Odd Couple: Season 4, episode 20, "The Insomniacs" (1974). Felix can't sleep, and his insomnia is keeping Oscar awake.
- The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Season 7, episode 11, "Mary's Insomnia" (1976). Mary suffers from insomnia until a doctor prescribes her some sleeping pills, but Lou has a chip on his shoulder about the pills and insists on helping Mary fall asleep without them.
- Barney Miller: Season 3, episode 9, "Power Failure" (1976). Fish hasn't been able to sleep for days, and all the other cops have suggestions to help him.
- Diff'rent Strokes: Season 1, episode 6, "Goodbye Dolly" (1978). When Willis donates Arnold's stuffed bear, Homer, to a charity sale at Kimberly's school, Arnold can't sleep for three nights in a row, and he keeps everyone else in the house awake, so Mr. Drummond hires a private detective to find Homer.
- Newhart: Season 3, episode 17, "My Fair Larry" (1985). A guest is struggling with insomnia, and George makes it his mission to try to cure him.
- Perfect Strangers: Season 2, episode 15, "Beautiful Dreamer" (1987). Balki is having trouble sleeping, and when he does sleep, he has terrible nightmares, so Larry tries to help him figure out what's causing them.
- Cheers: Season 8, episode 1, "The Improbable Dream: Part 1" (1989). Rebecca can't sleep because she keeps having sex dreams about Sam.
- Night Court: Season 8, episode 19, "To Sleep, No More" (1991). Dan hasn't been able to sleep since he became the executor of the Phil Foundation because he's been mishandling its funds, and when he has to make a speech for the foundation, he sees Phil's ghost and comes to grips with his guilt.
- The Nanny: Season 4, episode 25, "The Boca Story" (1997). Fran's parents decide to move to a retirement condo in Boca, and Fran is so distraught that she can't sleep.
- Spin City: Season 2, episode 20, "The Pope of Gracie Mansion" (1998). Mike almost gets hit by a truck that reads "G.O.D." on the side and is driven by a guy who looks like Jesus, and he thinks it's a message from God, but he can't figure out what it is, and he can't sleep for several nights because he's anxious about it.
