Howard introduces Ellen to his son, Howie, and Howie treats her like a pariah while simultaneously clinging to Emily like she's his mother. Eventually, he confesses to Bob that he wants his dad to marry Emily instead of Ellen.
• The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Season 5, episode 24, "Anyone Who Hates Kids and Dogs" (1975). Mary dates a single dad who gushes over his son, Stevie, but when Mary finally meets Stevie, she's put off by his bratty attitude, and she makes the mistake of telling his dad.
• Herman's Head: Season 2, episode 25, "Love and the Single Parent" (1993). Herman picks up a woman at a single parents' support group, and her son hates him so much he shoots him in the arm with a bow and arrow.
• Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 9, episode 7, "Namaste" (2017). Larry dates Susie's friend, Bridget, and her son is rude and insulting towards him. Bridget tries to explain away his behavior by telling Larry he has Asberger's, but Larry is convinced the kid is just an asshole.
