A character suspects someone is in the mafia, but they turn out to be mistaken.

- Dream On: Season 3, episode 3, "Nightmare on bleecker Street" (1992). Martin meets with a well-dressed elderly man named Mr. Monteleoni to discuss a book he wrote while he was in jail. He tells Martin to call him Don, and Martin calls him "Don Monteleoni," thinking he's a mafia don, but it turns out it's because his name is Donald.
- Wings: Season 7, episode 19, "Driving Mr. Dcarlo" (1996). Antonio gets a job chauffeuring rich Italian man named Mr. DeCarlo, and when the gang hears about it, they convince Antonio that Mr. DeCarlo is in the mafia. Antonio confronts Mr. DeCarlo and finds out he's actually a diamond merchant.
- 3rd Rock from the Sun: Season 4, episode 18, "Dick 'The Mouth' Solomon" (1999). Sally dates a man named Sam whose nickname is "The Butcher," and she assumes he's in the mafia. When Sam asks Tommy to make a delivery for him, Tommy thinks he's getting made, but they both eventually find out that "The Butcher" actually is a butcher and not a mobster.
- The Office (US): Season 6, episode 6, "Mafia" (2009). An insurance salesman with an Italian name and a New York accent comes to the office to try to sell Michael insurance, and everyone but Oscar and Toby is convinced he's a mobster threatening Michael with bodily harm if he doesn't buy insurance from him.
