Up on the Roof
One or more characters go up to the roof of a building and get stuck there, usually because they're locked out or they lost their ladder.

- It's a Living: Season 4, episode 1, "The Roof Show" (1986). After Sonny accidentally locks himself out on the roof, one-by-one, the rest of the staff go looking for each other and get locked out there too.
- Perfect Strangers: Season 2, episode 22, "Up on the Roof" (1987). Larry and Balki climb onto the roof of Mr. Twinkacetti's house so Larry can get a photo of the top of a church for a photo contest. Mr. Twinkacetti catches them and accidentally knocks down their ladder, leaving the three of them trapped on the roof in a thunderstorm. When they're rescued by a fireman, another photographer gets a shot of them that wins first place in the contest, while Larry's photo of "Mr. Twinkacetti Framed by Lightning" wins 10th place.
- Bottom: Season 1, episode 5, "'s Up" (1991). While running their neighbor's corner shop while he's at a funeral, the lads go up on the roof to relax and get trapped out there when Richie stupidly removes the cricket bat that was holding the door open in an attempt to prank Eddie.
- Frasier: Season 8, episode 3, "The Bad Son" (2000). Since Niles is supposed to be pretending his marriage to Mel is happy, he and Daphne can't be seen out in public, so instead, they picnic on the roof of Frasier's building. When the wind picks up, they try to head back in, but a gust of wind slams the door shut and locks Daphne outside and Niles inside, and they have to wait hours for the super to come unlock the doors.
- Malcolm in the Middle: Season 2, episode 2, "Halloween Approximately" (2000). Francis comes home a week after Halloween, and the boys decide to celebrate late by building a giant slingshot and shooting balloons full of nasty stuff at the neighborhood from their roof. When the Krelboynes retaliate by building their own slingshot and firing back relentlessly, forcing the boys to retreat, but before they can get off the roof, the Krelboynes take out their ladder, leaving them stuck up there until their parents get home.
