A character is afraid to fly, and the gang has to help them get over it so they can go on a big trip.

Appearances

• The Bob Newhart Show: Season 1, episode 1, "Fly the Unfriendly Skies" (1972). When Bob invites Emily to join his therapy group for people who are afraid to fly on their trip to New York, she reveals that she's also afraid to fly, and she refuses to come along.
• Sanford and Son: Season 3, episode 8, "Superflyer" (1973). Fred finds out that his uncle passed away and left him some money, but he has to fly to St. Louis to get it. He's never been on a plane, and he's terrified of flying.
• The Odd Couple: Season 4, episode 16, "The Flying Felix" (1974). All of a sudden Felix is afraid to get on an airplane, and Oscar makes it his mission to help him get over his fear so he can get to a big photography job.
• Barney Miller: Season 2, episode 17, "Fear of Flying" (1976). When Wojo is assigned to escort a prisoner to Cleveland, he reveals Barney that he's afraid to fly. Harris gives him a copy of the book, Fear of Flying, and when Wojo reads it on the plane, he's so distracted that he forgets all about his fear.
• The Golden Girls: Season 3, episode 5, "Nothing to Fear But Fear Itself" (1987). Rose has to give the eulogy at her aunt's funeral in the Bahamas, and she's terrified of public speaking, so she talks Dorothy and Blanche into going with her, but Dorothy's afraid of flying and tries to back out at the last minute.
• Cheers: Season 6, episode 19, "Airport V" (1988). Carla's husband, Eddie, who was recently cut from the Bruins, gets a job with a kids ice show and has to go on the road. He keeps inviting Carla to come join him, but she refuses without telling him why. When pressed, she confesses to the gang at Cheers that it's because she's afraid to fly.
• 3rd Rock from the Sun: Season 1, episode 12, "Frozen Dick" (1996). Mary and Dick are attending an awards ceremony in Chicago, and before their plane can take off, Dick realizes he's afraid to fly. He freaks out and causes such a scene that he and Mary are kicked off the plane.
• Spin City: Season 4, episode 22, "Airplane!" (2000). Mike and Caitlin travel to San Francisco together, and Caitlin's fear of flying leads to her to cling to Mike when there's turbulence, and it's not long before they're kissing.
• My Name is Earl: Season 2, episode 10, "South of the Border: Part Uno" (2006). When Catalina gets deported, Earl and Randy decide to travel to her country and take her home. They get passports and board a plane, but when the flight attendant gives the safety presentation, Earl is too scared to fly and runs off the plane. They get their old pediatrician to give Earl some drugs to help him relax, but the plane is delayed for hours, and the drugs wear off just as the plane is taking off, and Earl tries to run for it and has to be physically restrained by the crew.
