Jumper
Someone is on the ledge of a tall building. Usually they're threatening to jump, but sometimes they ended up there due to other circumstances, and people assume they're threatening to jump.

- My Favorite Martian: Season 1, episode 6, "The Man on the Couch" (1963). During a heat wave, Martin sits at the top of a water tower to get some cool air, and passersby assume he's going to jump.
- The Odd Couple: Season 2, episode 18, "Where's Grandpa?" (1972). Felix's grandfather is devastated because his wife left him, and he goes out on the ledge of the building to jump but gets scared and freezes instead.
- The Bob Newhart Show: Season 6, episode 4, "Who Was That Masked Man?" (1977). When his wife kicks him out, Mr. Peterson befriends Mr. Carlin, and they get drunk together, but when Carlin sobers up, he kicks Peterson out too. Mr. Peterson gets so depressed that he climbs out on the ledge of Mr. Carlin's building and threatens to jump.
- WKRP in Cincinnati: Season 1, episode 3, "Les on a Ledge" (1978). Andy tells Les that he's banned from sports team locker rooms because of rumors that he's gay, and Les is so distraught that he climbs out on the ledge of the building and threatens to jump.
- It's a Living: Season 3, episode 20, "Jump" (1986). A guy from Dot's acting class stands on a window ledge and threatens to jump if Dot doesn't agree to do a scene with him.
- Night Court: Season 4, episode 2, "Giving Thanks" (1986). After Dan saves Christine's life by stopping her from choking, she's so grateful that she reluctantly agrees to sleep with him. They meet in a hotel room and are interrupted by a man standing on the ledge outside the window, who tells them he's going to jump to his death. In frustration, Dan grabs the man off the ledge, saving his life too.
- The Golden Girls: Season 3, episode 24, "Mr. Terrific" (1988). When Dorothy accidentally gets Rose's boyfriend fired from his job hosting a children's show, he stands out on a ledge and threatens to jump, but Rose is convinced she can talk him down.
- Herman's Head: Season 1, episode 5, "Fatal Distraction" (1991). When Herman rebuffs an obsessed woman, she climbs onto the ledge of the Waterton Publishing building and threatens to jump.
- Dream On: Season 3, episode 17, "Up All Night" (1992). When a manuscript gets destroyed twice in one night, Martin stands on the ledge of the roof of the Whitestone building and threatens to jump.
- Cheers: Season 11, episode 7, "The Girl in the Plastic Bubble" (1992). Lilith tells Frasier she's leaving him for her research partner; Frasier response by climbing out on a ledge and threatening to jump.
- Seinfeld: Season episode 4, "The Chinese Woman" (1994). Elaine's friend, Noreen, is despondent after Elaine broke up another of her relationships, so she stands on the Brooklyn Bridge, contemplating jumping, when Frank Costanza's lawyer appears and helps her down.
- The Nanny: Season 2, episode 2, "The Playwright" (1994). While explaining to Brighton why bullying other kids is wrong, she runs into an old classmate, Jeffrey Needleman, whom she used to bully, and she agrees to go out with him to make her point to Brighton. At the end of their date, Jeffrey proposes to Fran, and when she turns him down, climbs out on a ledge and threatens to jump.
- Herman's Head: Season 3, episode 14, "Three on a Match" (1994). Herman gets turned down for another writing job, so he goes up to the roof of the Waterton building to get some air and meets a man standing on the ledge, planning to jump.
- Frasier: Season 2, episode 22, "Agents in America: Part 3" (1995). Bebe stands on the ledge of the KACL building and threatens to jump so she can pretend Frasier talked her down and use it as a bargaining chip to re-negotiate his contract with the station.
- NewsRadio: Season 4, episode 1, "Jumper" (1997). A man climbs out on a ledge outside Dave's office and tells him he's going to jump. Bill seizes the opportunity to make himself look like a hero by talking the man down live on air.
- Father Ted: Season 3, episode 8, "Going to America" (1998). At a celebration called, "It's Great Being a Priest '98," a young priest climbs out onto a ledge and prepares to jump, and Ted talks him back inside by telling him he's his friend.
- Spin City: Season 3, episode 11, "Local Hero" (1998). Mike mentors a young city councilman by telling him to be "Captain New York," and he takes it literally by dressing up in a homemade superhero costume and trying to help a man off a ledge.
- Saxondale: Season 2, episode 2, (2007). While Tommy and Raymond are taking care of some pigeons, Raymond spots a man sitting on the ledge of a tall building. Tommy talks to the man, whose name is Martin, and convinces him not to jump, but Martin's still depressed, so Tommy devotes himself to cheering him up.
- Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 7, episode 6, "The Bare Midriff" (2009). Larry accidentally splashes urine on a portrait of Jesus in his assistant's bathroom, and she and her mother, Madeline, think it's a miracle, but when they see Larry relieving himself outside the building, they realize what happened, and Madeline is so distraught that she climbs up on the roof, and Larry almost falls off while rescuing her.
