Rorschach Test

One or more characters are given a Rorschach test, and the answers they give are unexpected. Usually they react as if the ink blots depict something dirty.

Appearances

• The Addams Family: Season 1, episode 32, "Cousin Itt and the Vocational Counselor" (1965). Cousin Itt can't figure out what career he should have, so Morticia and Gomez introduce him to a vocational counselor, who gives him a Rorschach test.
• Get Smart: Season 1, episode 20, "All in the Mind" (1966). Max goes undercover as a disturbed Army officer to investigate a psychiatrist. One of the many tests the doctor gives him is a rorschach test.
• Get Smart: Season 3, episode 17, "The Little Black Book: Part 2" (1968). Max's old army buddy, Sid, rants about Control and spies to the police, and send him to a psychiatrist, who gives him a Rorschach test.
• The Bob Newhart Show: Season 1, episode 2, "Tracy Grammar School, I'll Lick You Yet" (1972). Bob gives a talk for career day at Emily's school, and he brings a rorschach test as a visual aid. When the kids ask what he think it looks like, he says it looks like "two ducks kissing," but after class, he admits to Emily that he couldn't say what it really looked like because there were children present.
• Barney Miller: Season 2, episode 20, "The Psychiatrist" (1976). When a suspect complains that Wojo threatened his life, a psychiatrist comes to the precinct to interview everyone. Part of the interview involves a rorschach test.
• The Bob Newhart Show: Season 6, episode 18, "Easy for You to Say" (1978). Bob shows Howard his new ink blots, and Howard reacts to them as if he's looking at pornographic images. He asks Bob if they're "'French' ink blots" and if he can take some "to show the guys at work." He even acts disgusted at one he thinks goes too far and says he wonders "what kind of tramp would pose for those."
• Head of the Class: Season 2, episode 9, "Psyched Out at Fillmore" (1987). The IHP students take a psychological personality test, which includes ink blots.
• Sledge Hammer!: Season 1, episode 15, "Haven't Gun, Will Travel" (1987). A crime boss is tired of Sledge foiling all his evil schemes, so he devises a plan to plant a fake police psychologist and find a way to stop him. The fake doc starts his analysis by showing Sledge some inkblots, most of which he identifies as extremely violent scenes.
• The Golden Girls: Season 6, episode 8, "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Sophia?" (1990). When Sophia applies to join a convent, one of the sisters comes to the house to interview her and gives her a rorschach test.
• Spaced: Season 1, episode 7, "Ends" (1999). Mike is getting re-evaluated for the Territorial Army, and part of the evaluation is Rorschach test, where Mike sees every inkblot as a deadly weapon.
