Pre-nup
A character who's planning to get married is asked to sign a pre-nuptial agreement, and it causes controversy.

- Too Close for Comfort: Season 6, episode 20, "Acropolis Now" (1986). Iris is planning to marry a Greek man named Alex, and Henry, who thinks Alex is after Iris's money, thinks she should have him sign a pre-nup. Meanwhile, Alex's son thinks Iris is after his money and thinks he should have Iris sign a pre-nup.
- Newhart: Season 4, episode 24, "Pre-nups" (1986). Stephanie's father asks Michael to sign a pre-nup because he thinks Michael only loves Stephanie for her money.
- Cheers: Season 6, episode 8, "Bidding on the Boys" (1987). Lilith is outraged when Frasier asks her to sign a pre-nup, so she gets back at him by winning Sam in the bachelor auction.
- Northern Exposure: Season 3 episode 22, "Our Wedding" (1992). It's Adam and Eve's wedding day, and when she gets to the alter, Eve announces that she can't marry Adam because she's rich and she doesn't want to give him half her money. So Bernard, who is a professional accountant, volunteers to help by writing a pre-nup, but Adam is against it, so their wedding party and guests have to wait around while they negotiate a deal.
- Seinfeld: Season 7, episode 22, "The Invitations" (1996). George is trying to find a way out of marrying Susan, so Kramer suggests he ask her to sign a pre-nup. Unfortunately, it just makes Susan laugh.
- Party Down: Season 2, episode 10, "Constance Carmell Wedding" (2010). The gang caters the wedding of former employee, Constance, who's marrying a rich, elderly filmmaker with a heart condition, and while they both claim they're madly in love with each other, Casey is shocked when she hears that Constance's husband-to-be asked her to sign a pre-nup. Casey tries to talk her out of it, but Constance signs anyway.
