Two characters get married and decide to compose their own wedding vows.

- Rhoda: Season 1, episode 8, "Rhoda's Wedding" (1974). Rhoda and Joe write their own wedding vows.
- America 2 Night: Season 1, episode 34, "Rolletti-Sherwood Wedding" (1978). Tony and his bride-to-be, Joanie Sherwood, compose their own wedding vows and put them to music.
- Taxi: Season 1, episode 8, "Paper Marriage" (1978). Latka composes his own wedding vows for his green card marriage to Vivian, the prostitute.
- Mork & Mindy: Season 4, episode 2, "The Wedding" (1981). Mork and Mindy write their own wedding vows.
- Newhart: Season 4, episode 16, "I Do, Okay?" (1986). For Dick and Joanna's vow renewal, Dick reads some vows he wrote for their original wedding but never used, and they're laughably outdated.
- Cheers: Season 8, episode 16, "Wedding Bell Blues" (1991). At Rebecca and Robin's ill-fated wedding, Robin tells the Justice of the Peace that they composed their own vows, and proceeds to recite one of Shakespeare's sonnets word-for-word, then Rebecca says, "I only loved you for your money" and runs away.
- The Larry Sanders Show: Season 2, episode 15, "Hank's Wedding" (1993). Hank marries his fiance, Margaret, on the show. They wrote their own vows, but Hank is too broken up to read his, so Larry takes over.
- Wings: Season 6, episode 26, "Here It Is: The Big Wedding" (1995). Helen and Joe wrote their own wedding vows, and they recite them despite Joe having his arm stuck in the toilet.
- Frasier: Season 10, episode 1, "The Ring Cycle" (2002). Niles and Daphne elope to Reno and write their own vows, which they get to say again when they have a fake wedding back in Seattle to appease Frasier and Martin.
- Peep Show: Season 9, episode 2, "Gregory's Beard" (2015). Super Hans gets married, and he and his bride, Molly, have composed their own vows. Super Hans's are most song lyrics, and Molly's reveal Super Hans's real name: Simon.
